The Montreal Impact were just seconds from extending their five-game winless stream as substitute Blake Smith arrived at the edge of the area.

With a shot that went through the legs of goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen in the sixth minute of stoppage time, Smith’s first-time strike gave the Impact a much needed victory, shutting out Eastern Conference leaders Sporting Kansas City, 1-0, on Saturday night at Stade Saputo. The Impact’s performance earned them the honor of SBI MLS Team of the Week.

The Impact beat out Toronto FC, the San Jose Earthquakes, and the Colorado Rapids for this week’s award.

What did you think of Montreal’s performance? Which team stood out to you in MLS Week 22?

  1. TFC didn’t win it because they are pathetic. Winning one league home game in a year doesn’t make them deserve it. They deserve to be relegated to the USL-Pro.

  2. can’t believe the Impact get team of the week after the thrilling and dramatic come back by TFC – not to mention their first ‘true’ home win of the season, snapping a goal less drought and win-less drought how TFC doesnt win it for the week is a mystery!
