Champions League winners Bayern Munich will face Europa League champions Chelsea in Prague today for the 2013 UEFA Super Cup.
It will be the first meeting between the two clubs since Chelsea beat Bayern in their 2012 Champions League final clash. Chelsea will be participating in the Super Cup for the second consecutive season, and Jose Mourinho and his men will hope to fare better than Roberto di Matteo’s squad did when they fell to Atletico Madrid 4-1 last season.
On Sunday, Liverpool will host Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will visit the Emirates in a derby double-header.
David Moyes’ move from Everton to Manchester United will see him move from one Liverpool derby to another, but Brendan Rodgers will attempt to thwart the Scot’s first visit to Anfield as manager of United.
Moyes has never won in 11 visits to Anfield, and has only managed to defeat Liverpool three times in 22 total meetings with the club. Rodgers is faced with his own difficulties, with Kolo Toure, Joe Allen and Aly Cissokho all being injury doubts for the match.
In the second derby match of the day, Arsene Wenger will meet André Villas-Boas in the North London Derby.
Both clubs have had their struggles so far through two league matches. Arsenal suffered a 3-1 defeat in their season-opening match against Aston Villa, and while Tottenham have picked up max points thus far, they are yet to score from open play in the league.
The meeting between the two London clubs has averaged over five goals for match through the last seven meetings, so it will surely be an interesting showdown.
