The search for that first victory of the season has been plenty difficult for Jozy Altidore and Sunderland, and things are not about to get any easier.
Sitting in last place in the Premiership with a 0-5-1 record, Sunderland are set to host a star-studded Manchester United team on Saturday in a game that looks one-sided on paper. What is playing in the Black Cats’ favor, however, is that United are currently struggling to put up consistent performances under new head coach David Moyes and are on a two-game losing streak. That might be enough to instill some confidence in Sunderland and Altidore, who continues to look for his first league goal with the club.
Tim Howard and Everton will be going up against the other club from Manchester in one of Saturday’s other marquee matches. The Toffees are currently in fourth place in the league standings and the only team still unbeaten, but they will need a strong showing from Howard and co. in order to grab at least a point against Manchester City at Etihad Staidum.
Wondering what other match is worth watching? Look no further than Timmy Chandler and Nurnberg’s clash with Hamburg SV on Sunday. Both teams are near the bottom of the Bundesliga table through seven rounds of action, but Nurnberg are still without a victory and could use one at home to further distance themselves from the relegation zone.
Here is who the Americans Abroad play this weekend:
Steve Cherundolo and Hannover 96 play John Brooks and Hertha Berlin. (Brooks is out injured.)
