FC Dallas will have a new man at the helm next season.
Following a disappointing 2013 campaign that saw the side miss the playoffs for the second consecutive year, FC Dallas announced on Friday that head coach Schellas Hyndman will step down at the end of the season, ending his five-year run with the club.
“I truly appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the FC Dallas family for the last five years,” Hyndman said in a statement. “After a lot of thought and consideration, I feel the time is right for me to step down as head coach of FC Dallas. I want to thank the Hunt family for their support and friendship, our players, coaches and front office for their dedication and effort during my time here, and especially the great FC Dallas fans.”
Hyndman is only three years removed from being named MLS Coach of the Year as he lead FC Dallas to the MLS Cup final, though they fell to the Colorado Rapids. Since then, the 61-year-old boss has failed to replicate the success he brought that year, as his aging side struggled in the second half of this season.
Since the beginning of June, FC Dallas have won just twice, despite starting the season with seven wins out of first 11 games. Overall, Hyndman has amassed a 62-57-58 record during his time in Frisco, Texas.
FC Dallas chairman Clark Hunt said in the press release that the search for a new coach would begin effective immediately.
