Club America continued its dominance of the Apertura with a 3-1 victory over Puebla. A victory for the visitors would have put them just one point out of the playoff spots but there was nothing DaMarcus Beasley or Michael Orozco could do about Rubens Sambueza. The Argentine struck twice in seven minutes to have the Eagles soaring before the match had even reached the half-hour mark.
The first was a perfectly placed toe-poke to the far upper-corner after just 22 minutes. The second, a rebound after Narciso Mina was bravely stopped by the Puebla goalkeeper.
Carlos Sanchez gave the visitors hope on the stroke of halftime with a shot from distance that inexplicably slipped under Club America keeper, Hugo Gonzalez. All thoughts of a revival were killed just six minutes after halftime though as Mina calmly stroked home from the spot to extend Las Aguilas current unbeaten run to six games.
Here’s a closer look at the best of Liga MX from Apertura Round 15:
SANTOS LAGUNA USE FAST START TO EASE PAST ATLANTE
Eduardo Aguirre took adavantage of some terrible Atlante defending to score the game’s opening goal inside the first minute. Aguirre finished the half just as he started it, with another goal to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Carlos Quintero added a third ten minutes from time, but Roberto Nanni ruined the clean sheet and restored a bit of pride for the home side a few minutes before the final whistle.
TIJUANA PLAY OUT ANOTHER SCORELESS DRAW
Edgar Castillo and company have now gone 196 minutes without scoring as Xolos played out a scoreless draw with Tigres UANL. Joe Corona got a rare start and played 61 minutes before being replaced by Herculez Gomez as manager Jorge Almiron sent out an extra attacker to try and break the deadlock.
Youngster Paul Arriola went 76 minutes but neither Xolos or its American contingent could break the deadlock as the Tijuana side sit 12th in the table on 18 points after 15 games.
