With two U.S. Men’s National Team starters in his general vicinity all night and playing in a raucous atmosphere on the road, it’s safe to say that Los Angeles Galaxy defender Kofi Opare had his hands full on Sunday evening.
The 23-year-old however came through with flying colors, teaming up with Omar Gonzalez to hold the host Sounders to just one goal, and providing tidy defense to keep Eddie Johnson and Clint Dempsey under control for most of the night. It was a tough choice but Opare’s performance earned him SBI MLS Rookie of the Week.
Opare beat out Andrew Farrell, Kyle Bekker, and teammate Gyasi Zardes for this week’s honors.
What did you think of Opare’s performance? Which rookie stood out to you in MLS Week 36?

Born in Canada but eligible for US. Played for USA U-20.
Is he an American? It’s so hard to keep track of all the young guys in MLS.
You are thinking of Ike Opara. Two different players.

You are thinking of another player. Kofi Opare was drafted in the last draft by the Galaxy out of the University of Michigan.
how is he a rookie? He’s played professionally since 2010
Really well composed for a rookie. Going to be a good compliment to Omar.
fantastic player, really excited to see how good he becomes.
Opare’s been the most consistent rookie for the Gs. Well deserved.
Nice, well done Kofi
