It may have taken Jermaine Jones a bit longer than he would have liked to open his scoring account this season, but he did so in style on Saturday as Schalke 04 cruised past VfB Stuttgart.
Jones netted his first goal of the 2013-14 campaign in a 3-0 home victory for Schalke with an impressive blast from distance in the 79th minute. The U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder collected a pass from the left and allowed the ball to settle before unleashing a low dipping shot that found the bottom corner. The win was Schalke’s second in their last three games.
Jones was not the only German-American to find the back of the net in recent days. Terrence Boyd added his latest for Rapid Vienna in a 2-1 win over FC Thun in the UEFA Europa League this past Thursday. Boyd took advantage of a goalkeeping miscue to knock home the match’s opener, which gave him 11 goals on the season across all competitions.

What do you think of Jones’ goal? Impressed? How many more do you see Boyd scoring before the winter break arrives?

I dont really rate Boyd to high in terms of should be going to world cup, but he keeps on scoring so it makes it hard for them to ignore him

show JJ also blocked what looked like a possible goal in the box (about the 3:20 mark) and stopped a promising counter (about 5:45) prior to this goal (about 6:40). Not a bad day at all.
Yeah, happy for JJ and love his guts, but that was a pretty clunky highlight. Looked like a linebacker’s first touch.
Guys, this why I’m Champions League player, ja
Great goal by Jermaine. His first touch was a little heavy; I don’t think he meant to lift the ball like that. Nonetheless, great recovery and strike
What a strike!!
Jones’ goal was pretty good too.
Mas Juevos grande!
He just went FIFA street on ’em
Jones sucks, he should be a center defender and for Boyd, gets more skills and score as many goals since your number 9.
lol
I like having a site like SBI where I can see American goals, regardless of quality.
As for El Paso Tx, I feel sorry for you. Your life must be pretty difficult without happiness.
whoosh~
El paso can be kinda grumpy sometimes. =/
Whyi thought u love me
Jones sucks??? I have to disagree. Actually, I think he’s pretty awesome! The dude is a stud. We’re lucky to have him.
Jones has really improved that last few weeks for Schalke outside of just the goal. Its good to see as we’ll for certain need him in great form next summer. He still seems to devide alot of US fans. On paper he should be one of the best players for the US but doesn’t always live up to that level.
I think theres a clash of style when Jones comes into the national team. Schalke is all about winning the ball in the midfeild and bombing everyone forward. They don’t really worry about possession at all. It’s similar to the way Bradley played at Roma under Zeman last season.
Jones just becomes very impatient with to more possession style the US trys. Thats why I think he goes for so many long balls that end up out of bounds. However we’re just not going to have the ball as much against better sides. So perhaps at the end of the day a more countering attacking style that Jones can bring will do us good. At least thats what I hope.
Good points.
Also, while I’m on the pro-Jones side of the fence, it has to be said that the touch before that goal was terrible. But that’s what he gives us – reckless abandon, constantly on the edge of lost control.
It looks to me that he did exactly what he meant to– popped it up so he could hit it on the half volley for more power. Players do that quite a bit.
