A team renowned for their international stars will be opening up their 2014 preseason campaign with international opposition.
The Los Angeles Galaxy announced on Monday that they will play their first match of the 2014 calendar year in a friendly at the StubHub Center on Feb. 8 against FC Shirak of Armenia. Shirak are the defending champions of the Armenian Premier League and currently sit in second place in this year’s standings.
It will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides and the first time ever that the Galaxy have hosted a team from Armenia. Shirak are located in the Armenian city Gyumri, not far from Armenia’s western border with Turkey.

we all have ancestors from somewhere and those wanna spend the $$$$ to see this
Cool, are they leaving Armenia midseason for this?
Thought that the only leagues on break in January & February were the Scandinavians.
The Armenian Premier League’s last game before break was Dec. 3 and they don’t restart until March 8th. They switched to a Fall/Spring league with a break a couple of years ago.
Actually, I should have said they announced the switch a few years ago, but I believe it was effective as of the 2013/2014 season. So, this is their first opportunity for something like this.
Muchos gracias, good stuff
Finally answering the age old question, can MLS teams compete in the Europa League?
Will the Kardashians make an appearance tho??
can only hope.
I hear the Armenian community in L.A. is in the hundreds of thousands
I want a System of a Down halftime show.
Groce.. Not sure what’s worst system of a down or the kardashians
I DEMAND it
Go Landonian.
The Armenian diaspora will be out in full force for this one. Good move by the Gals.
Exactly. This should be a fun game with 90% Armenians.
and it’s all or nothing for this team in the CCL. when do they announce the Tijuana game date, anyone know? or did I miss that. anyway, the Galaxy need games to get fit since MLS starts the season when it does, right? they didn’t qualify for CCLnext year so it’s now or never with this group
