For Brian Mullan, there’s no place like home.

The Aurora, Colo. native signed a new contract to remain with the Colorado Rapids on Tuesday, keeping the 13-year Major League Soccer veteran with his hometown club. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Brian is exactly the type of player that you want on your team, since he gives everything he has on the field and is a great professional off of it,” Paul Bravo, the Rapids technical director said in a statement. “As a true great in MLS and one of the very best players that Colorado has ever produced, we’re proud to have him on the Rapids, and excited that he’ll be returning for this season.”

Mullan, 35, is a five-time MLS Cup champion, winning with the Los Angeles Galaxy (2002), San Jose Earthquakes (2003), Houston Dynamo (2006, 2007) and the Rapids (2010). In his 13-year career, he’s made the MLS Cup playoffs on an incredible 12 occasions. Last season, Mullan struggled with injury and played in just 16 games, assisting on two goals.
