Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

It’s been nearly two months since he’s seen the field, but Barcelona forward Lionel Messi is finally ready to return to the pitch after recovering from a thigh injury.

The Argentine star was named to the Barcelona squad for their Copa Del Rey match today against Getafe and could make his first appearance since Nov. 10 in a 4-1 victory against Real Betis. Barcelona will be without Brazilian winger Neymar, who has the flu, but they are expected to play a strong lineup nonetheless for this mid-week encounter.

Meanwhile in England, Manchester City take the field against relegation threatened West Ham United in the semifinals of the Capital One Cup. Sam Allardyce’s sit in 19th place in the English Premier League and know that a huge result at Man City could go a long way towards giving them the confidence to build off of.

Man City however are treating this like a regular game, starting Vincent Kompany, Samir Nasri, and Yaya Toure among others.
