MLS Ticker: FC Dallas sign Escobar, Impact add Uruguayan forward; and more

FINAL COPA POSTOBON

By IVES GALARCEP

FC Dallas have spent the offseason looking to add some forward help from the international market and that search finally bore fruit on Friday, with the announcement of the team’s latest Colombian.

FC Dallas has signed Andres Ramiro Escobar, the club revealed on Friday, bringing in the speedy left-footed attacker on loan from Dynamo Kiev.

“Escobar is a great young player,” FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo said. “He has played in Europe for the last few years and I expect him and Fabian Castillo to form one of the best flank combinations in the league.

“Both players are very similar in their speed and ability to beat players one-on-one. I expect Escobar will fill the void created by the loss of Jackson on the right flank.”

Here’s some more news and notes from around MLS to round out your week:

IMPACT SIGN URUGUAYAN FORWARD GONZALEZ

The Montreal Impact bolstered their forward corps on Friday by signing Uruguayan striker Santiago Gonzalez from Uruguayan club Institucion Atletico Sud America.

“Santiago is a young striker that has already played three professional seasons,” Impact Sporting Director Nick De Santis said. “He is a dynamic forward that moves very well and can play with his back to the goal. It will take a bit of time to adapt, but I think he can bring a different element to the team.”

Gonzalez joins a collection of forwards that includes Italian star Marco DiVaio and Andrew Wenger.
