The U.S. Women’s National Team will be returning to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in April in a match that pits it against a familiar foe.

The U.S. will take on China in a friendly on April 6 at the soccer-specific stadium in Commerce City, Colo. The match will mark the Americans’ third at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and first since a 2012 clash with Australia (which was coached by current U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni).

It will also be the U.S.’s 51st all-time meeting with China, which is only second to Canada in terms of matches played against the Americans.

“China seems to be getting to the stage where they’ve got some increased stability in (their) coaching staff and their player pool, and the results of that stability and planning are beginning to show on the field,” said U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni. “As always, the match will be a chance for our players to make claims for spots on the World Cup qualifying roster later in the fall, but it will also be just before the players head into the NWSL as friendly combatants, so we’ll want to put in quality performances for our home fans.”

What do you think of the Americans scheduling a friendly vs. China? Would you like to have seen them face a different opponent? Wishing the U.S. would play more matches abroad instead of at home?
