SBI MLS Best XI: Week Six

Kevin Alston scored his first professional goal last weekend, and while that alone would have been enough of a landmark given his five years in the league, the moment was made even more special by all he has overcome to return to top form.

The New England Revolution defender battled through leukemia last year to return to the Revs and earn MLS Comeback Player of the Year honors, and on Saturday, he showed just how far he has made it back. Alston was outstanding at left back for the Revs, not only scoring a goal but shutting down his side of the field in a 2-0 win against Houston.

The performance earned Alston a place on the SBI MLS Best XI for Week Six. He is joined on the team by teammate Andrew Farrell, who looked outstanding in central defense after an injury to Jose Goncalves forced a lineup shuffle.

There is plenty of star power in this week’s SBI MLS Best XI, with Clint Dempsey making his second straight appearance, and Robbie Keane joining his Designated Player brethren on the squad.
