Danny Williams’ strong run of form has apparently been interrupted again by some knee issues.
According to a report from English outlet GetReading, Williams was held out of Reading’s 3-1 loss vs. AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday because of swelling in his knee. While it is unknown which knee is the one that is currently bothering Williams or the severity of the injury, it seems likely that it is the same knee that was swollen when he returned to the Royals following the U.S. Men’s National Team’s friendly against Ukraine in early March.
Williams has strung together some fine performances for the club that has hopes of securing one of the Championship’s promotion play-off spots. The 25-year-old midfielder has scored three goals in his last seven games for Reading, including a stunning game-winner late in a 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic on April 5.
Those performances boosted Williams’ chances of being called into the U.S.’s preliminary World Cup roster next month, but this latest knee problem has left some doubt as to whether he will be able to compete for a spot on the final squad that travels to Brazil in June.
