Major League Soccer’s U.S. Men’s National Team stars may have left for pre-World Cup training camp, but that didn’t stop MLS from having a memorable Week 11, led by the latest masterpiece performed by the New England Revolution.

Episode 141 of The SBI Show takes a look back at MLS Week 11, including New England’s thrashing of the Philadelphia Union and Portland’s comeback tie against the Columbus Crew. We also discuss the Chicago Fire’s win against Sporting KC, Real Salt Lake’s latest victory, and more.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also discuss the U.S. Men’s National Team, including Landon Donovan’s recent comments that he doesn’t feel he is a lock to make the U.S. World Cup team. We discuss that, and more, and also have our latest Head-to-Head Q&A.

  1. My 23 for Brazil. What I like about these players is in a pinch many of them are interchangeable–so Dempsey can become a forward, bedoya or zusi can move central, Cameron can move up to d. Mid, Fabian johnson can move up to the wing and Johannsson can move down to the wing, we could play a 5 man midfield with a lone striker or a standard 4-4-2 (which I know is super comfortable for our guys). I like the idea of bedoya on the L wing because he can check in and shoot on his right and will be a workhorse to cover defensively where many talented right footed opponents will be looking to exploit. Chandler can sub at right back if Cameron moves to CB or Dmid.

I know brooks is young to start but I can’t resolve our center D situation–Gonzalez makes me nervous these days. And honestly, why not put Brooks in there? Some will say he’s untested, but starting in the Bundesliga is as good a vetting process as there is and for my money, he has the best form right now of any American centerB. Klinsi expects these guys to be professional enough to know the system and work together despite how little time they’ve had together. Plus I can’t think of a better guy to handle Ghana’s athleticism.

  2. Ives,

A few suggestions on Peruvian food here:

Limon has a few locations in the city, is pretty good.
La Mar in Embarcadero center is solid, best lomo saltado I’ve had.
Mi Lindo Peru is also good.
Piqueo’s is good, but more of a high-end “latin fusion” spot with an emphasis on Peruvian.
None of the Peruvian food trucks are worth the price, and, if you require authenticity, try to avoid anything on Valencia or Mission south of the freeway… it’s all fusion over there… not that I eat out much.

    • La Costanera in Pacifica (about 10 miles south of the City) is supposed to be the most authentic in the area, fwiw.

  3. Garrett, what’s with the FCD hatin’? “Tailspin” is a bit harsh, it’s not like we’ve been terrible…even with the injuries, we’ve been competitive and but for a few bad/missed calls or more fortunate bounces of the ball could have come away with points.

Good show guys, looking forward to the next one!

    • When you get off the plane in Natal (and walk down to the tarmac…yup) your first reaction will be more like “holy b@lls it’s effin hot.”

    • The heat won’t give him cancer, its those radioactive waves bouncing around that will do it.
I gotta say, I am ever more confused by Garrett’s moral compass.

He didn’t like Bangkok. I love the town but I’ll be honest its a den of filth even when you try to avoid the shady bits.

Shots in the Bahamas however is the right kind of debauchery.

I want an episode with a ten minute section called “Philosophy by Garrett.”
PBG sounds a bit too much like a cheap beer though… hmmm.

    • It’s pretty friggen obvious. Everyone who has a first person perspective dies.

I don’t know if I have to feel bad give spoilers by saying someone dies. That’s not a spoiler. When they die however, that’s what matters.
