With the Columbus Crew going through a three-game goal drought, the team looked to their star player to give them a lift when they needed it most.

After going down a goal early, Crew Designated Player Federico Higuain reached deep into his bag of tricks and scored a tremendous goal, chipping the ball over the tall and athletic Donovan Ricketts to tie the score at the time against the Portland Timbers. Higuain would soon score another penalty in the game that finished 3-3. Higuain’s performance on Saturday evening earned him the honors of SBI MLS Player of the Week.

Higuain beat out a list of contenders that includes Lee Nguyen, Will Johnson, Jermain Defoe and Obafemi Martins for this week’s honors

What did you think of Higuain’s performance? Which player stood out the most to you in MLS Week 11?

  1. Agree. Pipa’s chip and Martin’s goal were both sick, so it is hard to say one is better than the other. Pipa’s overall performance was outstanding. Not his fault that the Crew’s defense gave up 2 goals in the final minutes while up a man.
