Good luck to him. Cant say I will ever approve of these kids by-passing college, but hey it worked for Michael Bradley
Looking forward to the day when these young guys are saying players from MLS were who they looked up to.
Though they all had some kind of stint in Europe, I am sure there are a number of young American players that look up to guys like McBride, Dempsey, and Donovan, just to name a few.
Do you think? I believe most of our good young players look up to Messi, CR, Ribery, Sterling, Lahm much more than McBride.
Hopefully, young American players will eventually realize how much guys like McBride and Reyna did for the game in this country. I am sure you are right about players they emulate, but if they become true historians of the game, like many great players do, they will know and respect those American names.
Is it me or does he have a huge over-bite?
Hometown boy made good! Sad that Timbers can’t have him, but excited for him in terms of the national team picture. One to watch in coming years.
nice video. also, in semi-related news, Stanko signed his pro contract today.
There is a gap because of the style we used to play. (Lalas ball) The players coming up now have received some benefit from the changes made by Claudio Reyna and Jurgen Klinesmann. The next crop of players will be the ones who will hit the next level one step at a time. Just look at the U17 squad, three straight tournament wins. This was done against many of the heavyweight teams such as France and Brazil to name a few.
I’m always impressed how mature our young guys sound. They never come across as having an ego. Rubin chose the right route. Holland will help his game immensely and he has plenty of time to head to the bigger leagues.
Unfortunately, we continually hear about the gulf between playing in the US and playing abroad. We’ve made leaps and bounds at the youth level, but Rubin and others hint that there’s a lot more to go.
Hollad, at least according to that 2009 NYT article about ajax, has better youth development than every country in the world.
Love this kid
