U.S. Women’s National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested early Saturday morning for her alleged involvement in a domestic violence incident with two family members, Seattle-area media has reported.

Solo was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault and is scheduled for a mandatory court appearance Monday.

Police responded to a disturbance call at Solo’s residence around 1 a.m. Saturday and a witness alleged to police that an intoxicated Solo had been “hitting people,” according to the Seattle Times. Officers reported observing visible injuries on Solo’s sister and 17-year-old nephew.

“There was a big party going on at her house,” responding officer Lt. Mike Murray told the Seattle Times. “It was an out-of-control situation.”

Solo had skipped a friendly against France on Thursday in East Hartford, Conn. with U.S. Soccer saying she was unavailable due to a “family commitment.”

Solo’s club, Seattle Reign FC of the National Women’s Soccer League, is scheduled for a road game Sunday against the Western New York Flash in Rochester, N.Y., but it appears Solo was not going to be there. It’s unclear how the arrest could affect upcoming games thereafter.

“We are aware of the situation with Hope and are now gathering information,” Reign FC said in a statement. “We do not have any additional information to share at this time.”

This is not the first run-in with the law for Solo and her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens. In November 2012, Stevens was arrested on the eve of their wedding for reportedly getting into a fight with guests at Solo’s home in Kirkland, Wash. The charges were later dropped.

At the time, Solo had publicly pushed back against the media attention surrounding the incident and early speculation Solo had been hit, telling the reporters: “It’s unfortunate what the media can do to judge before the facts are out there. It’s hard to see, but it’s a hard truth, and it’s part of life. I’m happy. I’m happily married. I would never stand for domestic violence.”

Solo is on track to break the USWNT’s goalkeeper record for most shutouts. She had tied Briana Scurry’s record of 71 clean sheets last week in the first of a two-game friendly set against France. Solo has 152 caps with the national team.

  1. All I have to say, is we can be sure that first accounts of altercations are always 100% correct. That’s right, let’s convict her before finding out anything more or letting her give a defense. I have seen so many times where people are convicted in the media without all the facts coming out–NYC is about to pay out a huge amount for the false conviction in the notorious jogger case, for example. So, I would caution people from leaping to conclusions. People who are forming a judgment now about her culpability are showing more about themselves than about Solo.

  2. Sounds like the police issued a straight red. She’ll miss the next game but should return after that. Solo will have trouble keeping a clean (rap) sheet after this though.

  3. U2 said it best

I know a girl, a girl called Party, Party girl
I know she wants more than a party, Party girl
And she won’t tell me her name, oh no, not me

  4. Not jumping to conclusions, but if alcohol was involved I hope she gets the help it looks like she may need.

      • She’s a loudmouth who hits under aged family members when she gets drunk, and she’s married to a drug using pos rapist, and she defends him and his previous transgressions. And I would say that to her face.

Knew many of her female teammates at university if Washington while she was a goalkeeper there. They never had positive things to say about her.

      • Why would you include “drug using” in determining her rapist husband is a “pos”? If he’s a rapist, that covers the “pos” part fine, don’t you think?

Don’t let media set your agenda for outrage.

  5. We can’t fight family now in our own homes? It wouldn’t be a family gathering without a drunk swing at the annoying cousin.

  6. She hit a 17 year old..No way this turns out good.
I’m assuming charges get dropped much easier if it’s just 2 adults involved.
I’m no lawyer but if she hit a kid this won’t go away

  7. I think it was the Alcohol that had more to do with it,
definitely not the easy, irie medicinal weed.
    We can all empathize,
my best wishes and prayers go out to
    Hope, and family.

P.S. please don’t go the way of Mane Garrincha,
    we need you around.

  8. She has made some decisions and now will pay. She still is the best female GK on the planet. I hope this sorted out with Hope being the one person that is the victor. I HOPE!

  9. No bueno. Her scathing remarks of Scurry were indicative of Solo’s character…the domestic violence stuff is just icing on the cake.
