After only coming onto the field with 15 minutes left to go, Switzerland forward Haris Seferovic conjured up some last minute heroics to give his nation a victory in their World Cup opener against Ecuador.
On a counter-attack in the third minute of stoppage time, Switzerland midfielder Valon Behrami advanced towards goal before the ball was played out to the left wing. Left back Ricardo Rodriguez took the pass and delivered a perfect cross into the box on the ground into the six yard box.
Seferovic, cutting through the Ecuador’s defense like a Swiss Army knife through butter, flew on to the end of the pass and fired home to the delight of his teammates and fans. Seferovic’s late goal earned him SBI World Cup Man of the Match honors.
Honorable mention goes to Seferovic’s teammates Behrami, Rodriguez, and Admir Mehmedi, who scored the game-tying goal.
