The rosters for the 2014 World Cup are set.

On Monday afternoon, the deadline passed for all 32 participating teams to submit their final 23-man squads for the tournament in Brazil, clinching the dreams of 736 players and dashed the dreams of many many more.

At the final minute, players such as Radamel Falcao, Luis Montes, and Ricardo Montolivo had their World Cup hopes slashed due to either existing injuries or recently suffered ones. At the same time, injury doubts including Manuel Neuer and Philipp Lahm, Franck Ribery, Diego Costa, and Luis Suarez all made their nation’s final squads.

The youngest player called up to the World Cup is 18-year-old Cameroonian forward Fabrice Olinga, while the eldest is Colombia and former Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragón at 42-years of age.

Here’s a full look at the 2014 World Cup squads.

Comments

  1. No regrets now. The choices have been may rightly or otherwise. Let the game begin. Hoping for the best from African countries like in the 90 edition to give us another moment of excitement. Let the game begin.

    Reply
  2. Still thinking that Donovan would be better as the other forward than Wondo.
More versatile (could play wing mid, or tucked in under the strikers), more WC experience, plenty of gas still left in the tank, and the unteachable goal scoring “kavorka.”
Oh well – here we go.

    Reply
  3. After looking at England’s squad, I am going to put them on my radar.

Seriously, outside of Spain, Brazil and Germany, their squad on paper has to have a shot at the semi’s a least.

But I think we all know this story…

    Reply
    • I know you’re not serious… There are at least 6 or 7 other teams that I’d watch before England.. Hodgson is never going to play all the youthful players. I think that would give England a better shot and which Rooney will show up? My sides that are just outside of the favorites.. Holland, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Belgium and France…

      Reply
      • France has the talent to win the whole thing, but the mindset to lose every game. As always, they’ll be interesting to watch.

Speaking of France, does anyone know where to get underage hookers in Fortaleza? My friend wants to know.

  4. The Germany/Portugal matchup should be good. One forward v. eight forwards. Or do the gusy with only one name only count as half?

    Reply
  5. I read somewhere that Liga MX is the 4th league with the highest number of players representing their country in the world cup

    Reply
    • Well, since such a high proportion of the Mexico team plays at home this is a big driver. Same with say the Iranian league.

      Reply
  6. Just realized 7 of Ecuador’s players play in Liga MX….this helps CONCACAF if anything, our leagues feed certain countries

    Reply
    • yea, he’s a ex estudiantes de la plata player, same team sabella coached in argentina before taking over the national team. knows him well.

      Reply
    • Perhaps the error is in using the plural lists as the entire presentation is a listing of all the individual lists, though it should be obvious the usage of are for the plural

      Reply
  7. Two random observations-

    1) Why does Australia have four goalies?

    2) Why don’t we have goalie uniforms that are either a color of our flag or a standard color (IE always black)? Brazil’s green looks great and matches the team much better than our deep purple from Sunday. Then again, what’s the point in questioning the fashion sense of those who brought us the rocket pop jerseys?

    Reply
    • Because the goalkeeper uniform is suppose to be different colors then the field team players and the opposing teams players too.

      • I got that, but we have no blue uniforms this cycle and neither do any of the teams we are playing, so maybe blue? And then Red or blue when we wear the home kits? There are rarely games where red, white, and blue are prominently on the uniforms of both teams.

    • There are 27 players listed there for Australia.. Something’s not right.. I know those Aussies are Dinky Die, but they wouldn’t bring 4 keepers..

    • Australia’s roster actually has 27 players listed, so either this is not the final list, or teams under a certain FIFA ranking get additional players on their roster to help their chances. In 2022 Qatar will be naming a 48 player squad.

    • 1) Australia cut four players at the deadline, not reflected here (including 1 GK): http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jun/03/socceroos-final-world-cup-squad-josh-kennedy-tom-rogic

      2) Nike doesn’t appear to be doing custom GK kits for any teams at all this time around. Adidas does it only for their biggest teams (Germany, Spain). Green is a standard GK kit color for Nike (England’s primary GK kit is also green).

Most teams travel with 3 GK kits (GK kit is also supposed to be different than the opposing team’s GK kit), so I’d guess black is also going along with the “berry” uniform. Black, berry, green, grey, royal and yellow are the standard kit colors for this year’s model.

  8. Thanks for sharing the 2014 World Cup rosters. It looks great to see the full list of player in a single post. It makes the searching for players much easier and anybody trying to know the name of the players in the WC squad, will find them at a glance.

Germany and Argentina team looks very composed and Brazil looks young and exciting. Argentine forward and Germany’s midfielders are treat to watch, though Italian forward are not lagging much behind; they have an uncanny knack to make any big team upset.

    • This is the dumbest question in the history of Soccer By Jeeves and sports. Everybody knows that Klinsmann once got involved car accident when he was a big-time striker in the 90s. Even though he was driving that 1967 Beetle that he used to roll in those days (and which was not actually involved in the crash), the fact is the responding ambulance by was driven by a Cameroonian of Nigerian descent (who just won’t answer my emails about that wire transfer— anybody know if he is safe?). Plus, the responsible driver had only just returned from a vacation from Montevideo (which is in Uruaguay and perilously close to Ecuado probably. I have a photograph of the Easter Islands that basically confirms this).

The guy who told me all this had just gotten trashed at a Korean BBQ place, which pretty much ties it all together.

As for the MLS part, that sh*t is weak and they will never compete with EPL since that donkey Eduardo Hurtado left. With my wife.

Thank You and God Bless Armenia!

      • Exactly. I’m pretty sure you and I know each other. I am fake friends with this charming couple from the Benny Yalehaber society and they are always yipping and yapping about their “yuppie puppy” named Jackson. I’m don’t remember if Jackson was a human or a canine… or if he knows that guy Jupp Dogg who won all those participation awards with Spaten Munchen last semester.

Alls I’ve ever tried to tell youse is that if Phony Meola can’t drop kick a cinder block 30 yards like I can, he don’t belong on the New York Mets nor any other foosball team.

Jamar Beasley is gonna have a breakout World Series. But me down for a keg of Crystal Pepsi on that Johnsonville!.

    • MLS FO doesn’t understand importance having top players at the World Cup = bad marketing. Instead, MLS FO’s go for no longer part of a national team, while MX done better job market their top Internationals, and MX destroys MLS in rating, in the American TV.

At least MLS have: Honduras, Costa Rica, Brazil, Iran and Aussies as MLS diplomats.

  9. Sweet.

A few of these rosters are disgusting (Spain, Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Belgium). What’s that you say? Those are 5 of the 8 seeded teams? Weird.

    This is gonna be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!
