Heading into May, Patrick Mullins and the New England Revolution were an afterthought. The team was sputtering around mid-table after stumbling out of the gates. For his part, Mullins had become an unused substitute extraordinaire. That was until the month of May, when Mullins and the Revs became the hottest player and team in MLS.

Mullins helped lead the Revs’ renaissance last month with four goals in his first four starts since opening day. Mullins’ outburst saw him become only the second rookie in league history to score in four straight games, matched only by former Chicago Fire forward Damani Ralph. The play of Mullins has not only catapulted the Revs to the top of the Eastern Conference, but it has earned the former Maryland forward recognition as May’s SBI MLS Rookie of the Month.

Mullins beat out Chicago Fire star Harrison Shipp and Toronto FC defensive mainstay Nick Hagglund for this month’s honors.

What did you think of Mullins’ performances in May? Which rookie impressed you most last month?
