In need of a positive result Thursday against Portugal, the Black Stars now find themselves in a difficult position.
Ghana announced Thursday morning that midfielders Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng have been suspended indefinitely ahead of the Black Stars’ final Group Stage match at the World Cup.
The two players, who played together at AC Milan, were involved in separate altercations. Muntari’s suspension stems from an “unprovoked physical attack” on a Black Stars executive at a recent meeting.
Meanwhile, Boateng’s suspension comes as a result of a verbal assault on coach Kwesi Appiah during a training session in Maceio. Boateng would not apologize for the incident, resulting in his suspension from the team.
Both players have been key contributors to the African side through two World Cup matches so far. Muntari was already suspended for Thursday’s match due to yellow card accumulation.
Ghana has one point entering the final group stage match, three points behind the United States for second place in Group G.
