D.C. United made another statement on Friday night that they are a legitimate playoff contender.
Ben Olsen’s side extended their two-point lead atop the Eastern Conference as they won their second consecutive road match, beating the San Jose Earthquakes, 2-1. D.C. United’s performance on the road made them our choice for SBI MLS Team of the Week.
Even without Fabian Espindola, others have been stepping up, including goalscorers Eddie Johnson and Luis Silva, who put D.C. United up 2-0 inside 27 minutes. Goalkeeper Bill Hamid also came up big with seven saves to preserve the win.
D.C. United beat out the New York Red Bulls, Seattle Sounders, and Toronto FC for this week’s honors.
