Terrence Boyd’s season debut with RB Leipzig has been pushed back at least two months.
The U.S. Men’s National Team forward suffered a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Saturday during RB Leipzig’s friendly match against English Premier League club Queens Park Rangers. According to RB Leipzig, Boyd will miss at least 10 weeks with the injury.
The injury means that Boyd likely won’t make his full Leipzig debut until October, and will also rule him out of the USMNT match against the Czech Republic in September and any other USMNT matches that month and in October.
Boyd only recently completed a transfer to Leipzig from Rapid Vienna, where he starred as a forward for two seasons, scoring 36 goals in all competitions. Boyd scored his first goal for RB Leipzig in a friendly match against Paris Saint-Germain on July 12.

What do you think of this news? Disappointed to hear about the injury? How do you think this can affect USMNT call-ups this fall?

wow..sucks
That blows. Germany better get with the program and find us a replacement. While they’re at it they need to also develop a good central defender and a striker that can scores goals for us.
Lol im sure they are working on.
No worries we have Wondo in the pipeline to choke in big games.
It is kind of crazy to go back and think that Alan Gordon played more of a role in qualifying then Wondo did. Not that Boyd did anything in qualifying either but it’s just kind of funny.
And when he (Wondo) did play, it prob shoulda been AJ. I hope JKs decision to not play him was related to that surgery AJ had (or is having)?
Gotta keep those spirits high Terrence! Here are some ideas to keep you mind and body sharp for the next 10 weeks:
-Freak out the Leipzig locals by learning fluent German
-Freak out your American teammates by learning the national anthem
-You need a nickname. Find one (bearing in mind Oil Can Boyd is regrettably taken)
-Show your club loyalty by drinking Red Bull wherever you go, vomiting occassionally
-Set up a bootleg website to stream RB Leipzig games to your adoring fans abroad
-Disregard your physicians and join a Sunday league team as Terry Goppingen
-Back tattoo
Those Goppingens are always trolling people.
-Ask Stuart Holden for advice on how to avoid recurring injuries
Yes, ask him, and then do the opposite of what he does.
Thank you for making that explicit
Whoosh…
I like the first idea, I’m sure he can pull that off pretty easily….you know considering he already speaks fluent German haha.
Deeply disappointing. The timing couldn’t be worse, but Boyd is still in a great situation at RB Leipzig. Get well soon TB!
If JK sticks to his plan to call-up new faces, this could give an opportunity to a player like Shawn Parker or Andrew Wooten (gotta fill the G-A quota, you know) or anyone else that has a hot start to this season.
My money is on Bobby Wood. He’s had a great preseason and is poised to have a great season.
Is Bobby Wood a winger or Forward? I know he was a forward for 1860 Munich II but I heard he plays a lot on the wings for the first team
According to an interview with the Manager, Bobby will be playing on the wings in a 4-3-3 starting XI. Great to hear that he is starting, the link should be his folder on big soccer in the yanks abroad section.
Bummer.
