On a World Cup rest day, Major League Soccer continued, with the defending champions returning home to take on the Chicago Fire. In hot and humid conditions, neither team was able to find the final breakthrough as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw. Sporting KC’s Dom Dwyer scored the opener in the 33rd minute when he took advantage of a poor mistake by Patrick Ianni and finished one-on-one with Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson. Mike Magee hit right back in the 40th minute in similar fashion, this time though being fed a pass from Alex and scoring easily. Sporting KC midfielder Graham Zusi made his return to the field for the first time since returning home from the World Cup.

Meanwhile, AZ Alkmaar released a statement on Sunday that former U.S. Men’s National Team player Freddy Adu would be joining the club on trial starting on Monday. The trial is the third for Adu in 2014, following a spell at Blackpool in England and Staebak in Norway.

Finally, Matt Besler is considering his options, whether he wants to remain in MLS or move abroad, Tim Ream signed a three-year extension with Bolton Wanderers, and Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach Richie Williams called up 38 players for a July training camp in California.
