SALVADOR, Brazil — It just might wind up being the most important day in American soccer history.
The U.S. Men’s National Team takes on Belgium today in the World Cup Round of 16 (4pm, ESPN/Univision), and with a country gaining more and more interest by the day in what the U.S. does, the Americans have a chance to inspire a country and move a step closer to immortality with a victory today.
Standing in the way is a talent-laden Belgium side that is missing some key players on defense, but still boasts plenty of talent across the board, particularly in attack, where the likes of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini will be ones to watch.
SBI will be providing live commentary on today’s action so please feel free to follow along with the action here. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
Enjoy the action (SBI live commentary is after the jump):
Bring in Jozy what I’m saving him for
Klinsmann’s subs have been on-point so far. One more trick up his sleeve, I believe.
Gotta give myself a +1!
Another goal started by a Michael Bradley turnover.
Than a terrible free kick.
C’mon that’s a low blow. That was on Besler
Besler made the worst play but it is uncanny how many goals are scored off of Bradley turnovers. Isn’t it the last three goals scored against us. Again, I’m not saying that Bradley made a terrible mistake and cost us the game. Its just a weird stat.
It is Klinsmann, Klinsmann, Klinsmann… NOT BRADLEY!
It’s time for all out attack you have nothing to lose
U.S. looks utterly exhausted.
Don’t look now but Bradley and jones have swapped positions
I’d bring in the fastest runner in our team… Mr. Green.
+100
Agreed. Give the kid a chance to start his USMNT career with a bang!
Bingo!
Wondo is terrible!!!! This is exactly what Wondo does against real competition!!!!!
Terrible moves by Klinsi bringing him and worst mistake playing him!!!!!!!
You can’t tell me Landon would have missed that!!!
now is not the time for this
+1
Fat Lando might not have found himself in that position
Wondo is not lacking fat either.
You there. Halt and show your hands!
We need a sub. I don’t know who for, either Bedoya or JJ, but we look so exhausted after the horribly depleting group games. Couple that with injuries, and you get our team looking drained.
Zusi, horrible. Wondo…damn you.
What a chance to snatch it with Wondo. He botched it bad.
they wrongly called offsides anyway. fifa is lucky he missed
To his defense they called the offside.
WOW. Wondo could have won it for us, and they got the call wrong anyways.
IT WAS CALLED AN OFFSIDE
This team looks depleted. Those three grueling group games are starting to show.
i swear to god if he made that and he called offsides!!!
I can’t believe it……he was onsides, and they got the call wrong.
he was on by a mile too
He missed by another mile which makes it two miles.
They’ve gotten a few offsides calls wrong today
Bring back Landon!
Wondo had a Wondo!
Wow where has this Omar Gonzales been????
This reminds me of one of those ridiculous youth soccer tournaments in 100 degree heat when you’re almost hoping to lose because there is nothing in the tank. Even if you win, the national champs are waiting in the next round.
Beasley’s experience is priceless!
We are the new Greece. Or Italy. American catenaccio!
I feel like this is a Mix Diskerud type game.
+1
Parkhurst maybe a better CB but Yedlin is a better RB
Yedlin to Europe?
Yedlin has been outstanding coming in cold for Fabian. He has been extremely dangerous getting forward, and has kept Hazard handcuffed. LOVE IT.
Not a good pass (though right idea) from JJ on that counter but DY’s pace forces Belgium to play the errant/ambitious ball out. Impressed with Yedlin’s play.
US could still win this.
Howard=beast
And Omar lands on Kompany’s ankle. Talk about bad luck for us.
So…to beat the dead horse, LD wasn’t better than Zusi, Diskerud, Green, or Davis?
And he hasn’t earned and proved himself time and again?
Timmy is ballin’. No matter the outcome of this one, top class performance.
I like this sub from JK. Wondo can hold the ball and let Clint play off of him. Tim is playing HUGE!
Make that pass Dempsey!
Wondo! We need some of that goonie magic!
Really wish that sub was taking that worthless POS Bradley out of there. I’m sick of watching him jog, not close down players, give the ball away (unless he’s passing it back to our center backs) and generally not do a damn thing productive.
Wondo, Wondo, he’s our man! If he can’t do it, we’re in trouble…
Oops. Shoulda tried, even with the flag raised.
Jones is gassed! But down to 2 subs it’s gonna be tough to get him subbed
I believe that we will win!
Jones looks done
Zusi needs to be substituted promptly. Bring in Mix or Johannssen.
You SHOOT that Bradley !!
Is Zusi Drunk ?????
We need a water break.
Get Zusi outta there!
Are we starting to bunker down again?
Yeah – zero high pressure, unlike the 1h, when Belgium has the ball in their defensive half.
Belgium dominating this 2nd half so far
Clint doesn’t look good. We need Jozy, but apparently he’s not ready. Damn, he is so important, not having Fabian is hurting us too.
You’re getting owned Bradley . Step up buddy !
What is Twellman say? We are trying to win and he wants us to bring in a defensive player???
Zusi can’t hold the ball at this level. The midfield turnovers are appalling. If the game keeps going this way, the U.S. can’t win. Someone has to find composure on the ball in the final third to make a dangerous pass.
Nerv city.
Get Beckerman in the game!!
The RASTA! His magic hair is the key!
Seriously though, Cameron being on a yellow worries me.
