After spending part of the summer on loan with Toronto FC, Julio Cesar is moving on to his next team.
The Brazilian goalkeeper is set to sign with Portuguese side Benfica after it was announced Tuesday that Cesar had ended his time with QPR by mutual consent.
Cesar made 27 starts for QPR since arriving in August of 2012 on a free transfer, but has not played for the London club since April 2013. The 34-year-old spent the start of the summer on loan with Toronto FC, where he started seven games and kept two clean sheets prior to departing for the World Cup.
Cesar appeared in all seven of Brazil’s World Cup games, including the host nation’s penalty kick shootout victory over Chile in which Cesar made two saves.
Cesar will now head to Benfica, which finished as champions of the Primera Liga last season. He joins fellow Brazilian Artur Moraes on the list of Benfica’s goalkeepers after 2013-14 starter Jan Oblak left the Portuguese side for Atletico Madrid in July.
