After departing the league in 2013, former Toronto FC forward Robert Earnshaw decided he wanted to return to MLS midway through this season.

The Chicago Fire announced on Monday that the club has acquired the former TFC striker on a free transfer, with the Welsh international set to join the team upon receipt of his visa and international transfer certificate.

“Robert is a veteran player with a wealth of international experience,” said Fire head coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. “He’s a gifted, natural goal-scorer who is already familiar with the league, and we’re glad to have him join the Fire as we continue the second half of the MLS campaign.”

Earnshaw most recently appeared for Blackpool in the Championship, where he made one appearance. Prior to his move back to England, Earnshaw scored eight goals in 26 games for TFC before having his option declined at the conclusion of the 2013 season.

What do you think of the Fire’s addition of Earnshaw? Will he make a difference for the Fire through the season’s final few months?
