Standing at a hulking 6-foot-7, Columbus Crew rookie Adam Bedell has the ability to change the game with just the flick of his head.
That is exactly what the 22-year-old forward did Saturday, as Bedell scored his second goal of the season in the Crew’s 3-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo at Crew Stadium.
With his side up 1-0 in the 59th minute, Bedell provided his side with an insurance goal by heading home a cross from forward Justin Meram. Bedell used his size to outmuscle Dynamo defender David Horst and flick home a close range header, giving his side breathing room for the Crew’s second win in as many weeks.
Bedell’s finish earned him SBI MLS Rookie of the Week, as the Crew forward beat out D.C. United’s Steve Birnbaum and FC Dallas’ Tesho Akindele for this week’s honors.
