Tim Howard marked Everton’s return to European competition with another magnificent performance.

The U.S. Men’s National Team star was a beast between the posts on Thursday evening as Everton routed Wolfsburg, 4-1, at Goodison Park in their first match of the 2014-2015 Europa League Group Stage. Howard made 12 saves to keep Wolfsburg off the board until Ricardo Rodriguez scored a fabulous free kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time to deny Howard a clean sheet.

Rodriguez did however score an own goal for Wolfsburg, and Everton also had goals from Seamus Coleman, Leighton Baines, and Kevin Mirallas.

Elsewhere in Europa League action, defending champions Sevilla beat Feyenoord, 2-0, with former Everton midfielder Gerard Deulofeu setting up both goals for the Spanish club. Also of note, Tottenham were held to a scoreless draw at Partizan, Inter Milan beat Dnipro on the road, 1-0, and Lille drew with Krasnodar, 1-1.
