Having missed his team’s last outing due to injury, New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips resumed his chase of the MLS goalscoring record by making up for lost time.
Less than half-a-minute into his return to action, Wright-Phillips scored the first of his eventual three goals, leading the Red Bulls to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Seattle Sounders. Wright-Phillip’s performance against the Western Conference leading Sounders made him an easy choice for SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.
Wright-Phillips’ opening minute finish was just the tip of the iceberg, as the Englishman emerged from halftime by netting a 53rd penalty kick. Just three minutes later, Wright-Phillips struck again, this time by smashing home a Roy Miller cross. The forward was substituted just moments later as an injury precaution, but the damage had been done by way of Wright-Phillips’ third hat-trick of the season.
Wright-Phillips beat out Javier Morales, Federico Higuain and Diego Valeri for this week’s honors.

Man, I remember when I used to laugh at EA Sports for having him as the leading goal scorer in my career mode.
Seems like just last summer.
If you’re going to about his goal scoring at least mention how many goals he has on the season.
