The Under-20 U.S. Men’s National Team have made a couple of late additions to their roster for this month’s training camp.
With the U-20s set to fly to Buenos Aires on Monday, head coach Tab Ramos called in both Columbus Crew midfielder Romain Gall and Chivas de Guadalajara defender Luis Martir as replacements for San Jose Earthquakes forward Tommy Thompson and Orlando City defender Tyler Turner. Thompson was released due to club commitments, while Turner is suffering from a quadriceps injury.
The call-up is the first to the U-20s for Martir, and its Gall’s first U-20 selection since participating in the NTC Invitational last July. Gall will miss the Crew’s match on Saturday against Chivas USA due to the call-up.
In addition to the roster changes, U.S. Soccer confirmed the schedule for the ten-day camp in Buenos Aires. The U-20s will play their first game on Thursday against Racing Club reserves, and on Saturday the U-20s will face Defensa y Justicia reserves. Both clubs are located in the Argentine capital. The trip will finish on Sept. 9 with a matchup against the Argentine U-20s.
Here’s a look at the updated U-20 USMNT Argentina training camp roster:
U-20 USMNT ARGENTINA TRAINING CAMP ROSTER
GOALKEEPERS (2): Jeff Caldwell (Virginia; Todd, N.C.), Santiago Castaño (New York Red Bulls; Union City, N.J.)
DEFENDERS (7): Conor Donovan (North Carolina State; Fuquay Varina, N.C.), Chase Gasper (UCLA; Alexandria, Va.), Luis Martir (Chivas de Guadalajara; Los Angeles, Calif.), Matthew Miazga (New York Red Bulls; Clifton, N.J.), Shaquell Moore (Unattached; Powder Springs, Ga.), Erik Palmer-Brown (Sporting Kansas City; Lee’s Summit, Mo.), John Requejo Jr. (Club Tijuana; Carpinteria, Calif.)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Fernando Arce (Club Tijuana; Chula Vista, Calif.), Gboly Ariyibi (Chesterfield; Arlington County, Va.), Russell Canouse (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim; Lancaster, Pa.), Luis Felipe (Cruzeiro Esporte Clube; Ouro Branco, Minas Gerais), Junior Flores (Borussia Dortmund; Manassas Park, Va.), Romain Gall (Columbus Crew; Herndon, Va.), Joel Soñora (CA Boca Juniors; Buenos Aires, Argentina)
FORWARDS (3): Paul Arriola (Club Tijuana; Chula Vista, Calif.), Bradford Jamieson IV (LA Galaxy; Los Angeles, Calif.), Zach Pfeffer (Philadelphia Union; Dresher, Pa.)
What’s up with Shaquell Moore? No club- where’s he headed? Why isn’t he attached?
Getting looked at my Spanish clubs right now, apparently: http://owhentheyanks.com/2014/08/20/shaq-en-espana/
This seems like a poor reason for MLS roster players to miss league games. I’m thinking here of Miazga, but there must be others.
Just Romain Gall of the Crew
I think the CREW are happy to get him games. He debuted in their last home game – a blowout. He’s still a way off from cracking their lineup when it comes to meaningful minutes though, so this seems to make sense for both him and the squad. Other than a situation like his I would agree with you though. Makes sense for Thompson to bow out for just the reason you suggest.
I’m hearing Flores is also going as a last minute addition, left for Buenos Aires earlier today.
man i want to see games of this squad way more a teamers
Umm…so does that mean Martir’s out the door at Chivas?
Was wondering the exact same thing.
Has to.
I would guess so.
Believe that only applys to senior capped players, see JP Ocegueda – still a bold move.
Well accepting the call cost Ocegueda. He was never featured with Chivas during his loan while the other loanee (Abel Fuentes) got some minutes. Now they’re both loaned to a second division club.
