In what was billed as a clash between MLS Cup contenders, the Seattle Sounders once again asserted themselves as the league’s top team.
The Sounders officially clinched their spot in the playoffs and extended their lead over the rest of the Western Conference Saturday by claiming a 3-2 victory over fellow contenders Real Salt Lake.
As a possible postseason preview, the Sounders were able to emerge from CenturyLink Field victorious due to a stoppage time winner from substitute Andy Rose. With RSL down a man, the Sounders did what was necessary by earning all three points to take yet another step towards claiming the league’s top spot.
The Sounders continued dominance atop the table was enough to earn recognition as SBI MLS Team of the Week, beating out Sporting Kansas City, New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas for this week’s honors.

A little disappointed not to see FCD get the nod but the Whitecaps game wasn’t particularly pretty…the second half was way better than the first, which was a largely forgettable 45 minutes (with the obvious exception of the Blas cross-turned-goal). Another game where we’re getting manhandled with little help from the ref(s), seems like every week we’ve got several injury scares due to bad and/or persistent fouls.
Vancouver isn’t exactly RSL either..
id say NE looked really good this weekend too (albeit over montreal)

It will be DCU or RBNY. Red Bulls are turning it on at the right time and the Scum have on fire Bill Hamid. I think it will come down to these two whenever they meet up.
With so many home games left, RedBulls should pull the #3 seed to set up an epic ECF between the two.
Revs finish with something like final 5 out of 6 matches on the road. They will drop points.

i want to pick NYRB but it seems like if Henry doesn’t single handedly win the game for them they aren’t going to win. Then again its the playoffs we are talking about.. sounds like the right time for something like that. so my question is will Henry save the day at NE (on turf)
DCU certainly look good. championship good possibly but when was the last time the East champ went to the playoff final?
NE looks too good right now. will have to watch them over this road game series.
Don’t sleep on the Union. They’re averaging over 2 pts per game across all competitions since Jim Curtin took over. Noguiera has found his groove and is an MVP caliber player in this league. Edu has been solid defensively and is finally being settled into one position. Williams and Maidana are finally getting healthy. Casey’s and Le Toux are hitting their stride recently. Andrew Wenger has been quickly turning around his entire career on the wing. Gaddis and MacMath have established themselves as good consistent players. White and Ribeiro have come out of nowhere to shore up holes. Add Valdes and MBolhi, both potential all stars, into that team and tell me there’s anybody in this league that they can’t beat.
