Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

Thierry Henry

With the International fixture break meaning club soccer is taking the weekend off in most of the world, Major League Soccer takes center stage with some important match-ups with playoff implications.

The New York Red Bulls play host to Sporting Kansas City tonight in an Eastern Conference clash both teams need given recent results. The Red Bulls are in dire need of three points after recently falling out of playoff position after dropping two of their past three matches. Sporting KC is mired in a three-match losing streak to fall into second place in the East.

In the Western Conference, Real Salt Lake travels to Texas to take on FC Dallas in a key clash between teams jockeying for third place in the West (and chance to avoid the play-in playoff game).

On the international front, Mexico takes on Chile in a high-profile clash at the new Levi Stadium.

  1. SKC need to start worrying about their own play and not the refs. It seems to me that their drop in form has coincided with a huge increase in whining.

  2. Watching SKC – Besler gave away a penalty – looking at the last few games from SKC, I am starting to wonder if Peter Vermes needs to better manage playing time – especially since they are in CONCACAF games and also had players in the world cup – his answer always seems to be that they need to “step it up”, show higher energy etc – maybe some players are getting burned out. Any thoughts?

  3. Watching Toronto – Union game. I had forgotten just how bad MLS is.
Why pay Bradley 6 millions if the rest of the players can’t make a simple pass.

    • Toronto are awful right now. No reason to draw conclusions based on one team though. Thatd be like watching Sunderland and saying the EPL is terrible.

    • Read the comment section. I had forgotten how ignorant people can be on the internet. Why bother typing a response if you can’t formulate a simple legitimate response?
