Seattle Sounders 3, Philadelphia Union 1: US Open Cup Final Highlights

  1. Was at the game last night and yes, Yedlin is good, but boy, was he getting scorched all night by Wenger. I think people in the league underestimate how fast Wenger really is. It was a really fun battle watch. That and Casey and Marshall/Alonso mixing it up. All three of them will be nursing some bruises this morning. Poor Nogs, he will be having nightmares of that shot bouncing of the post at 90+ minutes.

    • Yeah, I’ve been complaining about Wenger not finishing his runs, etc…but boy did he toy with Yedlin. Nogs is my favorite Union guy, but he’ll be haunted by that goal post. Macmath will be haunted by his indecision on the first and third goals. He definitely made a statement for number the 2 spot last night. The poor guy. A couple more years and I think he’s going to be great! Right about the time M’Boli leaves MLS.

I remember when PPL was like that for every game…I miss 2010 sometimes. Hey Front Office! There is money to be made, if you want it!!

Anyway, great game Seatle! You were supposed to win it, and you did. Wish Dempsey and Yedlin could have played with the same class as their teammates though…

  2. Would have loved to watch this game but don’t get GolTV due to unavailability on terrible Xfinity. Congrats to the Sounders on yet another win. Not a Sounders fan but I don’t get all the hate they get. I guess it’s just jealousy. They’re the flagship team for our league in my opinion and I’m happy to see them win another trophy. Also looking forward to seeing them at RBA on Saturday where I’m hoping they won’t be so successful.

  3. Congrats to the Sounders and Union. Sounds like it was an entertaining game. Apparently Andrew Wenger impressed. Jim Curtain should keep the job. Seattle for a treble? That would be very cool and well deserved for the ambitious club.

  4. Greatest game nobody saw. Screw GOL TV. Unless you are a Sounders or Philly fan that found a stream (like me), you werent able to watch it. It was really one of the more entertaining matches I’ve seen in awhile. ESPN, FOX, NBC, anyone…. really dropped the ball. They missed a great opportunity to grow not only the game of soccer but the US Open Cup itself.

    • totally agree. great match. Philly fans have nothing to be ashamed of. Stood toe to toe with a juggernaut of the league.

MacMath had a great match, but two of those goals were down to him still not knowing how to commit to coming out. The Seattle goal that tied in regulation should have been a punch away and the final goal he should have stayed home. He’s still young though, so with any luck he’ll find a club where he can learn from a veteran #1 for a season or two and then take the reigns much in the way that Brad Guzan has done. Still a lot of upside to him as a keeper, I just hope his next move is to a club that allows him to some time to finish his development.
