Giuseppe Rossi’s latest injury will keep him on the sidelines until 2015.

The American-born forward underwent surgery in his right knee by Dr. Steven Singleton at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo. on Friday, after determining earlier in the week that surgery was necessary. The subsequent recovery is expected to keep Rossi out for four to five months.

Fiorentina’s press release stated that the operation “revealed good stability of the cruciate ligament that was previously operated on,” and that “it was also possible to suture repair his recent medial meniscus injury.”

Rossi will spend the next week recuperating in Colorado before returning to New York to begin his rehabilitation.

This is the latest in serious knee injuries and surgeries that has plagued Rossi’s career since suffering his first torn anterior cruciate ligament in Nov. 2011.

STURRIDGE PULLS OUT OF ENGLAND SQUAD

England will be without one of their top attacking weapons for their first Euro 2016 qualifier.

After undergoing a scan on his injured thigh on Friday, the England National Team decided that it would be best to send Daniel Sturridge back to Liverpool, where he can recover in time to feature again for his club. Unfortunately for Roy Hodgson, this leaves him with just Danny Welbeck and Rickie Lambert as attacking options, along with captain Wayne Rooney.

“Daniel Sturridge has had a scan and will now return to Liverpool FC for treatment,” an FA spokesperson told the BBC. “He will play no part in the forthcoming Switzerland match.”

England face Switzerland in Basel on Monday evening.

COSTA WITHDRAWS FROM SPAIN, REPLACED BY BARCA PRODUCT

Diego Costa can’t seem to get over his injury problems when joining up with his new national team.

Costa, who was a member of Spain’s disappointing 2014 World Cup campaign after choosing his adopted nation over his birth nation Brazil, had to withdraw from the Spain squad ahead of Monday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Macedonia due to a hamstring injury.

“Diego Costa has a myofascial injury to his hamstring muscle in his left thigh,” read a statement from the Spanish Football Federation. “The injury was detected with an MRI scan after the player expressed some discomfort during yesterday’s match against France. All the tests carried out by the medical staff will be sent to Chelsea.”

The 25-year-old forward suffered the injury in the second half of Spain’s 1-0 defeat to France on Thursday, and was replaced in the 67th minute of the match.

Costa has been replaced in Spain’s squad by Barcelona youngster Munir El Haddadi, a 19-year-old La Masia product who made his debut on Aug. 24 for the Barcelona first team and scored in a 3-0 victory against Elche.

    • Rossi was deemed physically unfit for the Italian 2010 and 2014 WC teams after rehabbing for injuries.

So he probably would not have been picked by the US either; or if he had been picked he would not really have been fit.

  1. At this point, Holden and Rossi should think about straight up knee replacements. Feel bad for them both, but to be a pro athlete you must be durable.
