Neither SBI No. 7 Notre Dame nor No. 12 Virginia could take advantage of top-ranked North Carolina’s loss to Duke on Friday to surge into first place in the ACC.

The match of the weekend, between the Cavaliers and the Fighting Irish, ended in a 1-1 draw. In the 65th minute, the 3-1-2 Fighting Irish opened the scoring when Patrick Hodan converted from the penalty spot. The Cavaliers’ Wesley Suggs was sent off after tackling Vince Cicciarelli in the box.

Being a man down did not deter the Cavaliers, as they leveled the match three minutes later. Eric Bird scored the equalizer for the Virginia, which is now 4-1-1 this season.

No. 8 Penn State remains at the top of the Big Ten after topping No. 25 Ohio State 1-0. The Nittany Lions’ Kyle MacDonald scored the lone goal in the 63rd minute in front of 1,942 fans.

No. 20 Delaware lost its second-consecutive match after starting the season 6-0. Corey Baird scored the lone goal to give the Cardinal the 1-0 victory. No. 18 Stanford is now undefeated, with a 5-0-2 record.

Meanwhile, No. 15 California won its fifth consecutive match after losing to No. 1 North Carolina to start the season. The Golden Bears’ Stefano Bonomo and Connor Hallisey scored to give the Bears the 2-1 win over SIU-Edwardsville.

Hallisey scored three goals, one Sunday and two Friday, and recorded an assist this weekend. SIUE’s Christian Volesky tried to spark a comeback by scoring in the 77th minute, but California closed out the match.
