So long, scoring drought.
The Vancouver Whitecaps on Tuesday ended a 449-minute scoreless run that stretched over nine halves, scoring on each side of halftime to hand the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-0 loss at BC Place. Pedro Morales netted the winner on a penalty kick late in the first half and Kendall Waston added the insurance goal before the hour-mark to give the Whitecaps their first win since Aug. 10.
The result – which also saw Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted record his league-leading ninth shutout – moved the Canadian club back into the final playoff spot in the Western Conference ahead of the Portland Timbers. The Whitecaps have a two-point lead over their Cascadia rivals.
Vancouver opened the scoring in the 39th minute after San Jose centerback Victor Bernardez was called for a foul on Waston. Morales found the back of the net on the ensuing spot kick.
Waston then put the game to bed in the 56th minute, getting on the end of a Morales corner kick before hitting it home.

A mediocre team playing a horrible team on plastic pitch that wouldn’t be acceptable for most high school matches.
Doyle and Co are ruining a once proud club. I can see why he doesn’t sign any young players. The staff their can’t develop talent only ruin it. Thompson and Koval get worse with every match.
Vancouver isn’t really any better than last season, they just think that they are. If they don’t get new turf the league should tell them to play their matches at Swaangard. They never should have left Empire Stadium.
