With the target on their backs, Atletico Madrid are gunning for a second straight league title and are off to a flying start this season.
The defending La Liga champions overwhelmed previously unbeaten Sevilla, thumping the defending Europa League winners by a 4-0 margin. Goals from Koke, Saul, Raul Garcia, and Mexican National Team forward Raul Jimenez led Atleti to the big win, earning SBI World Team of the Week in the process.
Atletico Madrid beat out Serie A side Cagliari, Ligue 1 leaders Marseille, and Bundesliga side Schalke for this week’s honors. Cagliari thumped Inter Milan, 4-1, at the San Siro, Marseille defeated Saint Etienne, 2-1, while Schalke upset Borussia Dortmund, 2-1.
