In front of his home fans at Estadio Azteca, Miguel Layun put in the performance of a lifetime.
The Club America right back played the kind of game fullbacks dream of, scoring all four goals in America’s 4-1 romp over Santos Laguna. While three of the four came from inside the box, Layun’s second was a sensational 45-yard chip on a first-touch half-volley with the goalkeeper way off his line.
The Mexican national team defender beat out Lionel Messi, Atletico Madrid’s Koke and Cagliari’s Alkin Egdal for this week’s honors.

He is a good player, playing a tough position. He could play in any league, and have some success.
Good feature but Layun was on the road at Santos’ home grounds.
Clinical finishing on all four goals. High technique strikes to be sure.

‘World Player of the Week’ – wow that must be a task selecting!
Layun is a great player – unlike any LB i have ever seen. with a Spanish passport idk how he hasn’t signed in Europe yet. This game was a real highlight but he has been legit for a while now
nitpicking he is a right footed LB and was playing LM for this game, but he often scores/runs the attack from the LWB position for both Mexico and Club America in a 5-2-3 formation
