Twenty-four out of the SBI Top 25 played this weekend, while nine of them suffered defeat, including No. 3 UC Irvine, No. 4 George Mason, No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 8 Stanford.

No. 1 Washington avoided the weekend dominated by upsets, as the Huskies easily handled No. 8 Stanford, 3-1, in Seattle. The Huskies improved to 9-1 this season, after Justin Schmidt, Mason Robertson and Darwin Jones netted goals Sunday evening.

Brandon Vincent scored the lone goal for the Cardinal from the penalty spot, but they could not comeback, as they fell to 7-2 this season. The loss is Stanford’s first since their season-opening loss to No. 15 Creighton in August.

Sophomore Nick DePuy scored from 35 yards in the final minute of regulation to give UCSB the upset victory against UC Irvine. The 8-1-2 Anteaters are winless in their last two matches, with a draw Thursday and their loss Saturday. The Gauchos improved to 6-3-1 in front of 4,731 fans.

Senior Kharlton Belmar scored a brace, as he helped VCU rout George Mason, 3-0. Belmar scored within the first few minutes and added his second in the 16th minute. Sophomore Dakota Barnathan scored the third for the 4-6-1 Rams, who handed the Patriots their first loss of the season. Similar to the Anteaters, the 7-1-2 Patriots also are winless in their last two matches.

Meanwhile, No. 2 Penn State became the first team to win 10 matches this year, as sophomore Connor Maloney helped the Nittany Lions improve to 10-0-1 Saturday. The Nittany Lions have won seven consecutive matches.

No. 12 Syracuse won their fourth-consecutive 1-0 match against Virginia Tech Saturday. Emil Ekblom scored deep into overtime, but he is accustom to scoring game-winning goals, as his 107th minute goal is his fifth game-winning goal this season.

One of the marquee matchups this weekend did not live up to the hype, as No. 5 Georgetown and No. 10 Marquette played to a listless 0-0 draw.

Also, Oregon State utterly dominated No. 13 California, as Khiry Shelton and Timmy Mueller both scored hat-tricks to give the Beavers a 6-2 victory on Sunday.
