Julian Green had not been limited at all in training the last couple of days, but U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann still chose to send the youngster back to his club due to a niggling injury.
Klinsmann announced via his Twitter account on Thursday morning that he has allowed Green to return to Hamburg SV due to not being 100 percent recovered from a rib injury.
Green, 19, suffered bruised ribs in a Sept. 20 match against Bayern Munich and returned to training for Hamburg last week, but Klinsmann said the 19-year-old winger was still struggling with the injury earlier this week during the start of the Americans’ preparations for Friday’s friendly vs. Ecuador.
Chris Wondolowski was added to the U.S. roster on Tuesday in case Green was not deemed ready for the match at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut, and now seems more likely to see the field in Landon Donovan’s final international game.

How do Wondo and Green play the same position? And if Wondo was added, in case Green couldnt go, what does that say? Wondo and Green are equal players? I really hope our latest German savior is a whole lot better than Wondo
Thank god we get to see how Wondo will do tomorrow. We don’t have enough info on how he will impact the USMNT…well, other than the bulk of his goals against bad competition and him missing a sitter that would have put us through.

I am as upset about that miss as anyone (having been in Arena Forte Nova for it), but it was not exactly a sitter. I would say that it was a 60-70% chance at most for a top level forward.
I agree. That’s why we need to start playing top level forwards in that scenario or how about playing a young player in a friendly that might turn into a top level forward instead of someone who can no longer help.
Exactly. Not entirely clear how much of angle he had. was a makable shot but hardly a sitter.
on that play there was also a square pass option to Dempsey that had about a 99% chance of turning into a goal, but obviously it’s all in the blink of an eye. (AUUGGGH!)
Julian plays wide, we play 4-3-3 so I doubt we will see Wondo starting.
i don’t think Green leaving will have too much of an impact on Wondo’s playing time. if anything, my guess is JK would start LD wide, then sub in Green at 30 minutes. but now, if you ask me, he’ll sub in Corona for LD. Wondo will play in the 2nd half which was likely the plan when JK called him in.

Makes sense. This is not exactly a high stakes game and Green needs to focus on getting healthy and earning playing time with Hamburg.
