The San Jose Earthquakes’ star of the future has scored his first goal.
19-year-old Tommy Thompson scored his first senior goal Tuesday as the Earthquakes topped Honduras’ C.D.S. Vida, 2-1, in an international friendly.
Thompson’s goal came in the 47th minute with the Earthquakes sitting in a one-goal hole. The forward’s finish came via a Shaun Francis cross, as Thompson was able to slide the ball inside the far post for his first senior goal.
Joining Thompson on the scoresheet was Khari Stephenson, who scored the game-winner in the 79th minute.

CREW ADD HOMEGROWN PLAYER SWANSON
The Columbus Crew may be in the middle of a playoff race, but the club is already taking strides towards the future.
The Crew announced Wednesday that the club is set to sign midfielder Ben Swanson as the club’s ninth Homegrown Player. The 17-year-old, who began his Crew career as an eight-year-old with the Crew Juniors and Academy programs, is the longest tenured youth player in the club’s history.
Swanson, who will officially be added to the roster ahead of the 2015 season, will officially sign his professional contract Thursday at a Crew Youth Soccer event.
NYCFC HIT 10,000 MARK IN SEASON TICKET SALES
Just months away from the club’s MLS debut, New York City FC has hit the five-digit mark when it comes to season ticket sales.
It was revealed Tuesday that more than 10,000 season tickets had been sold ahead of the team’s inaugural campaign. Yankee Stadium, which will house the club for the foreseeable future, is expected to have a capacity of 33,444 for MLS games.
“It demonstrates what we have always known,” said NYCFC Chief Business Officer Tim Pernetti said. “New Yorkers have a passion for soccer.”
NYCFC, who currently have just six players under contract, are set to add to their roster Dec. 8 via the Expansion Draft before training camp begins in January.

What do you expect of Swanson heading into the 2015 season? What do you think of the Homegrown Player system as it stands? Are you impressed with NYCFC’s current sales?
Is that 10,000 payments, or 10,000 “reservations”? How many does RBNY sell?
I’m guessing that 10,000 people put down a $50 deposit on season-tickets. If that’s the case, big deal. Sacramento Republic has 8,000 people who have done the same for a future MLS franchise here.
Ditto for Atlanta, I think. Just askin’.
Why would they be doing deposits ?
I have already paid for my season tickets almost 2 months ago now. It has to be paid.

I’ve read a couple articles about this. It’s payments for season tickets for next season. At this point with them starting next year, the selling tickets, not deposits. For the most part you take deposits as you figure out where your going to play, number of games you have and schedule. I think at this point having sold a third of your seating capacity in season tickets is pretty good. They still have the Christmas season to sell and the lead up to the start of the season. Although, early next year they will also start selling groups.
