The Seattle Sounders are heading into the MLS Cup playoffs with a second trophy in hand.
A month-and-a-half after winning the U.S. Open Cup, the Seattle Sounders topped the LA Galaxy, 2-0, Saturday to earn the first Supporters’ Shield in club history, as well as recognition as SBI MLS Team of the Week.
It was a scrappy win for the Sounders, who earned the victory due to a pair of late goals from substitute Marco Pappa. In a physical battle of a game that had all the makings of a playoff clash, the Sounders emerged victorious to earn the title of regular season champions and a chance at completing the league’s first ever treble.
The Sounders beat out the Vancouver Whitecaps, New York Red Bulls and Portland Timbers for this week’s honors.

This could be the triple triple for Sigi (Sounder Coach). If the Sounders win the MLS crown then they will have earned all three major US 2014 soccer trophies (US Open Cup, Supporters Shield, and MLS Cup). That feat has never been done before. Plus Sigi will become the first (and perhaps never to be repeated) coach to take three different teams to an MLS Cup Victory (LA, Columbus, and Seattle). I don’t think any other coach has done that with more than one team.
The first (let alone any) domestic treble would be a nice feather in the cap for Sigi and the Sounders.
Arena has won MLS cup with DCU and LAG.
What a blow to the LA ego. Bruce out coached 3 games in a row
