For the only time in the month of October, the world’s stars jet across the globe to suit up for their countries in international friendlies or qualification matches.

Euro 2016 qualification is already in full swing with the UEFA termed “week of football” kicking off this round of qualification last Thursday and continuing through Tuesday. The man, the myth, the legend Andrea Pirlo is back in Italy’s squad following a short-lived retirement, and they’re ready to push their lead at the top of Group H when they host Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, an injury-riddled German side with only 16 outfield players head east to take on neighbors Poland, with many players on both sides very familiar with each other. Spain look to rebound from a shocking loss at Slovakia on Thursday with a visit to Luxembourg, one that’s sure to result in a victory for La Furia Roja.

Elsewhere, Brazil and Argentina meet up in a high-profile international friendly in Beijing, China, France host Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal, the U.S. take on Ecuador in East Hartford, Conn. and Mexico host Panama in Queretaro.

Finally, the MLS playoff race continues with a number of key late-season matchups. The fifth-place Columbus Crew hit the road to take on the Philadelphia Union, sixth-place Toronto FC visit the fourth-place New York Red Bulls, and the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the Seattle Sounders in the final Cascadia Cup match of the regular season.

  1. What a great trio of games on Nat TV.

    First, Landon.
Then watch the Whitecaps lose to Seattle.
Then on Sunday watch LA and Dallas try to keep pace.

With plenty of other games too….
