With just minutes remaining and a one-goal lead to protect, David de Gea saved the day for Manchester United.
Nursing a 2-1 lead over Everton, the Manchester United keeper made a pair of spectacular saves in stoppage time, earning de Gea recognition as SBI World Player of the Week.
After stopping a Leighton Baines penalty kick late in the first half, de Gea bailed his side out yet again with a pair of late saves, the first of which came on a Leon Osman effort in the 91st minute. The Spaniard saved his best save for last, as de Gea kept out a long-range Bryan Oviedo screamer in the 94th to seal the Man United victory.
De Gea’s late-game heroics were enough to beat out Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer for this week’s honors.
