Red Bulls vs. Revolution: SBI Live Commentary

Two original MLS franchises in search of their first MLS Cup are set to open the Eastern Conference Finals Friday at Red Bull Arena.

Fresh off a landmark defeat of top seeded D.C. United in the previous round, the New York Red Bulls now face the task of hosting yet another team that has been a perennial thorn in the club’s back: the New England Revolution.

The Revs, winners of 12 of their last 14, have eliminated the Red Bulls from the postseason in 2003, 2005 and 2007 , while the Red Bulls have found their stride late in the season as well with nine wins in their 12 previous outings. However, the hosts will need to limit the Revolution’s potent attack ahead of the return trip to Gilette Stadium, where the Red Bulls picked up their first victory in 17 tries back in June.

  1. After seeing the Jones goal from another angle I concede it was fair…..but can anyone debate he should have been sent off? Look back at olaves red from last year in the playoffs. Red bulls get the short end of the stick again.

  2. Interesting that you wonder about offsides on the Revs goal, but ignore it on the BWP goal. He was beyond the ball, and beyond Shuttleworth (they’re on opposite sides of the six yard box boundary), with only one player between him and the end line when the second shot is fired.

  3. Jermaine Jones lucky to be on the pitch in the first half after a horrid tackle, comes back and wins the game with an offsides goal. Classic playoff red bulls.

    • Michael? The younger son? Was he ever old enough for facial hair? I guess I’m remembering the early years. JJ had a goatee for a while . . .

  5. Gorgeous goal, awesome environment, rocking crowd, IN RED BULL ARENA on national TV! Am I dreaming.
If all MLS owners are watching, pay attention to what dps do and a real soccer stadium does.
Real roof cover, grass, and imagine if red bull would rebrand and revolution get their stadium.
Bright future for MLS, and hopefully one day ABC puts some MLS games on national TV.
    Entertaining game, very indeed.
