Red Bulls vs. D.C. United: SBI Live Commentary

The New York Red Bulls take on D.C. United at Red Bull Arena today in the first leg of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

The meeting marks the fifth time these teams have met in the playoffs, with D.C. United having won every previous meeting. D.C. will be favored in this one as well, having finished in first place in the East during the regular season.

The Red Bulls enter with some confidence after eliminating defending champion Sporting Kansas City in the knockout round, and will look to keep the momentum going with a strong showing in the first leg.

  1. If MLS teams played like they do during the playoffs. MLS would be one of the most exciting leagues to watch.

That difference in intensity comparative to the regular season is quite evident, and exciting to watch.

    • A very good point, although one could argue the difference is even more extreme in hockey and (these days) baseball. That kind of intensity is hard to sustain.

  2. There is so much space everywhere for NYRB. Over the top, out on the wings. You name it. Petke’s tactics trumping Ben’s right now.

    • Agree @TomG about the space RBNY has on the ball. United not pressing and RBNY with really crisp passing to move the ball around. DCU looks lackluster
