DUBLIN- The U.S. Men’s National Team will write the final chapter of the 2014 season tonight with a friendly against Ireland at Aviva Stadium.

The Americans will complete their two-game stint in Europe just four days after dropping a 2-1 decision to Colombia in London. Jurgen Klinsmann is fielding a veteran squad against an Ireland team fielding a very young lineup.

Midfielder Alfredo Morales earns his first start for the U.S., while Bill Hamid gets the nod in goal in just his second national team appearance.

SBI will be providing live commentary on tonight’s action so please feel free to follow along here. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

  1. Funny how Bob Bradley’s conditioning had them able to go at it until the end while Jurgen is running them into the ground and they are simply worn out.

  2. Boy, I’m not sure what you could glean from that showing or why we even bothered. Guinness?

My overall perception of the USMNT in that game was: Undertalented and TIRED.
We need to take a break.
We need to find a new DM BAD!
    I’m not overly worried.
ESPNFC guys made some good points about how the USMNT used to play: Defensive organization that countered you with serious pace…and it worked. I agree to some point, but we do need to progress in this sport and become more dynamic. BUT, we need to have a rock solid defense that never changes unless a player retires.

This game really didn’t mean anything at all.

  3. Yeah, they all seemed too tired in that game, with the back 4 looking atrocious. Only Diskerud and Bedoya seemed ok, but I hope they figure out something in 2015.

  4. 1. Anybody who played for the back 4 was horrendous
    2. I don’t want to see Wondo anymore. Yes he set up that goal but didnt do anything before and after and there are younger options
    3. We seem toothless without Dempsey
    4. Our players need to start playing (Altidore, Fabian, and brooks most importantly)
    5. Bobby Wood…..can you please just get 1.
    6. I had full confidence in Klinsmann before this, I am very iffy on him now even though this was just a friendly
    7. We get it Klinsmann, you are looking for talent everywhere, but we all know Ibarra and Morris was just you trying to send a message.

  5. At what point do we all stop listening to Klinsmann complaining and questioning the ability of his players that we begin complaining and questioning Klinsmann as a coach? No excuse whatsoever for this performance.

  6. Why has jurgen been smiling like a clown after the past two results? Your players aren’t psyched about being embarrassed neither should you.

  7. I want my USA team. What a freekin disgrace. A second team Irish team blowing us out!!!! Any pro, college, etc. team that showed this kind of effort would have fired their coach months ago. I am tired of a foreign coach trying to make a foreign team funded by US dollars. Would we be any worse fielding a team of MLS players?

You can talk about individual players all day but the fact remains that this is not a Team in a very team oriented sport and that goes to the coach.

  8. I actually support kinsmann for the most part but I think he needs to own up and take the blame for this performance. The u.s did not come out ready to compete.

  9. besides the 15 or so minutes leading up to our goal, we have looked like a JV team. I can’t wait to see the US “MOTM” on this one…….

    • Does anyone have a clue what formation or what position half the players were in at the end? Klinsmann does this every single match and we wonder why we get run over.

  10. LOL. Ives, You were saying what about JK and the USMNT? The city IS burning and Nero IS doing nothing. LOL. What will your story be next?

  11. Worst performance of the JK era. Thankfully it was in an end of year friendly.

Don’t put a ton of stock into these performances yet, but disconcerting effort nonetheless.

      • you’re ignorant. Cameron’s deflection isn’t his fault. if you actually WATCH the play, FJ should have closed down, he just stood there trying to make a block.

  12. WHAT A JOKE. Where are the Klinsmann apologist’s now? How to defend and/or justify this performance? Fine, we lost to the #3 team in the world. JG escapes reproach on that one. What about getting embarrassed by a second string Ireland team? You can blame the players but, ultimately, you have to look to the coach when you give up 10 goals after the 80th minute in past 11 matches. As someone said the other day, if Klinsmann doesn’t win the Gold Cup, he should be dismissed.

    • I am not a JK apologist, but this a product of the players (9 players under 5 caps). It is also an embarrassment. Some of these guys aren’t USMNT players, but now we know.

      • It was right after the fourth goal that I posted this so it was pretty reactionary and I acknowledge a bit over the top. But my overall point stands. The team (save Bedoya) looked completely lackadaisical and unmotivated out there. What about the stat I quoted? I’m not saying it’s necessarily time to move on yet, but we have to win the Gold Cup for me to feel good about JK. Experimenting is fine but we shouldn’t ever get our as**s handed to us by a second-string Ireland team, even in Dublin.

      • Soccer friendlies are like pre-season football. Wake me up for the Gold Cup.
And yes, if they look bad there, it’s time to take a serious look at JK.
