Rubin scores first pro goal in Utrecht rout

Rubio Rubin FC Utrecht

By FRANCO PANIZO

November was a month to remember for Rubio Rubin.

Just two weeks after playing in his first match for the U.S. Men’s National Team, Rubin opened his professional scoring account by netting an insurance goal in Utrecht’s rout of NAC Breda on Saturday. Rubin hit for his side’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute of an impressive 5-1 road victory, pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty area and firing it home from an acute angle.

The tally came in the 18-year-old attacker’s 11th appearance of the season for the club, which now sits in ninth place in the Eredivisie. He went the distance in the match.

Rubin is now surely hoping that the confidence gained from scoring his first goal will carry over into the coming weeks, starting with next Sunday’s home game against Heracles.

  1. Good for Rubin. Once we give on the fantasy of the US Developmental Academy and find more hungry kids like this one we will finally start to get better

  2. So Rubin scores 1 league goal in a league where Jozy once hit for 30 in all comps, and suddenly Rubin should be starting over Jozy…that’s what you’re saying here…

    • Exactly, let’s see Rubin produce like Jozy internationally and play in the EPL then we can talk. Until then, he’s a young player with a lot promise and maturity.

      • “Define play…”

I’ll be your huckleberry … Came on for Sunderland (EPL 13th place) replacing Darren Fletcher after the 60th(?) minute and caused a bit of havoc by battering Cahill and getting a shot or two on goal plus laying off for Adam Johnson to get a game winner (but he swung a dead leg at it). He received the praise of Arlo White and of Lee Dickson (Gooner) and some encouragement from the fans at the Stadium of Light.

        Does that adequately define “play”?

Darren Fletcher is amazing. He plays 16 minutes for Manchester United in their 3-0 win yesterday and now he puts in 60 minutes for Sunderland.

Tough guy. When was he traded?

    • I don’t think Rubin is better then Jozy right now but Altidore wasn’t doing the same things at 18 Jozy scored 30 goals already being a u.s vet.

      • At 18, Jozy scored 9 goals in 22 games for the Red Bulls and looked like an absolute star in the making. He was so electric he got a transfer to Villareal out of it. People have short memories.
